Malachi 3:8-10, “Will a
man rob God? Yet ye have
robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed
thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye
are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even
this whole nation. 10 Bring
ye all the tithes into the
storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house,
and prove me now herewith, saith the
LORD of hosts, if I will not open you
the windows of heaven, and pour you out a
blessing, that there shall
not be room enough
to receive it.
When all is said and done, the words of
Malachi chapter are a type and shadow of Christ.
God's tithe and offering to man (in the
form of Jesus) was such a great blessing poured out from Heaven that
no man could contain it.
Those who are not born again will be
cursed with the curse for not beveling on Jesus as their Lord and
Savior.
It's that simple!
One of the biggest dangers of tithing
is that it commonly limits most Christians to only giving ten percent
and generosity flies out the window. On the the hand, tithing will
bring high-mindedness in the manner of “I earned it with my
giving”. If we are earning things in our own power, why do we need
Jesus?
We are to give as we purpose in our
hearts under the New Covenant (2 Corinthians 9:7). When we learn of
and begin to appreciate God's love for us, we will give more by
accident than we ever could have on purpose. After all, it is more
blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). God set the ultimate
example of giving when He gave His only begotten Son.
